I am a senior lecturer at the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism (ESGHT), University of the Algarve (Portugal), where I have been teaching, in the Languages department, since 1992. I have a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Lancaster University (UK), specialising in discourse analysis which I have used in my research focusing on the discursive and media practices surrounding migration, especially lifestyle migration, as well as place-identity and modes of belonging. My recent research has focused on the discourse(s) surrounding sustainability in tourism, as well as issues in tourism which impact on the politics of place. I am a researcher at CiTUR – Centre for Tourism Research, Development and Innovation (Portugal). I am currently co-editor of the academic journal Dos Algarves: A Multidisciplinary e-Journal (based at ESGHT) and co-coordinator of CL-UAlg Language Centre (ESGHT branch).
