Dora Lúcia Miguel Agapito
Dora Agapito holds a PhD in Tourism (2013), focusing on sensescapes in the context of tourism in rural areas, an MSc in Marketing (2010) and a BSc in Communication Sciences (2007), University of the Algarve (UAlg), Portugal. She developed her Post-Doctoral Studies in Consumer Psychology (2018) at the Faculty of Economics, University of Porto. Currently, she is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics, University of the Algarve, under the contracted programme established between the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the University of the Algarve. She is the Programme Leader of the international master in Tourism Organizations Management at this institution, and an integrated member of CinTurs – Research Centre for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being (CinTurs). Previously, she was Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Events Management at the University of Lincoln (2017-2020), United Kingdom (UK). She was awarded the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), UK. The researcher has experience in supervising and evaluating master and PhD theses.
She also develops activities as a reviewer and has published in top journals (e.g. Tourism Management; Annals of Tourism Research; Journal of Destination Marketing and Management; European Planning Studies). She coordinates the course Gestão de Marketing (Strategic Marketing) in the UG programme Gestão de Empresas (Business Administration), as well as courses in consumer behaviour area in the PG programmes of Tourism Organizations Management; Tourism Economics and Regional Development; and Marketing Management. She also teaches modules on multi-sensory experience in the PhD programme in Tourism and the PhD programme in Economic and Management Sciences (Faculty of Economics, University of Algarve).
23 peer-reviewed journal articles (Scopus, ISI Web of Knowledge), 6 book chapters, 2 books, 1 encyclopaedia entry, as well as conference proceedings and book reviews have been published. She participated in 4 research projects and was invited as a keynote speaker in 5 scientific events (Hong Kong, Spain and Portugal). Currently, the researcher participates in the project "Investigating the visitor experience with hearing-impaired in Hong Kong Wetland Park as a multi-sensory functional landscape" [RGC, Ref No. 14607919], promoted by the Department of Geography and Resource Management, Chinese University of Hong Kong (Funder: University Grants Committee of Hong Kong). Additionally, she presented 20 communications in conferences, and integrated the scientific and organising committees of international scientific events. Currently, she is a member of the editorial board of the peer-reviewed Journal of Destination Marketing and Management, indexed in Scopus (Q1). She was awarded a merit scholarship (2004/2005), a research scholarship (2010), and prize in an international conference (2014). Her main research areas are: Sensory Tourism Experience; Sustainable Tourist Experience; Responsible Tourism Management; Destination Management; Destination Image; Rural Tourism Experience; Tourism Marketing; Experience Design; Consumer Behaviour; and Social Marketing.
